Story Board

This is our story board of all the types of shots that will be taken at all the different locations we have available. It depicts a drawing of the shot and then a description as at this point in production we do not have a shot by shot idea of how we are going to film our video, especially the performance aspect.

Plan B

For our Plan B we have a few different locations as backup to use for filming parts of the performance of our video as we are doing it in quite public areas however they are still owned by people so we can get permission to use these area when it is empty. All the good footage we shoot will be put too good use as a promo, trailer type video for our webpage.

Lighting

For our shoots we are going to do in all the different locations we have the appropriate lighting to suit the job. Within the stables we have to studio lights and reflectors to make sure that our video is correctly light and keep continuity. For the space we have got a set of stage lights built in which we will be able to use to create the desired lighting we want on the stage for our shoot.

The Space

In this post you can see the size of the stage which we will be using for our performance part of our music video.  We won't have any of the boxes/tables on the stage at the time but it helps to show how much space there will be when we come to putting the instruments on the stage.

Initial Costume and Props ideas

As we are going for a very similar style to the band themselves we are going to be wearing typical clothes of the genre. They will be rather simple outfits such as skinny jeans, plain t shirts, possible hats. However because we dont want to seem to copy the band too much in our approach to creating costumes for the genre we have some ideas to maybe stick to the simple costume for one location but change to smarter clothing on a different location wear things such as shirts and possible jackets,
As for props within our video are main props will be instruments as within our narative our what we are replacing props with is a creative use of colour by desaturating the video apart from the colour red to make an interesting affect.

Pitch FeedBack

These note's are from my teacher and they talk about what ideas are going to use and how we are going to put these ideas into our music video. My teacher asks about locations and where we are going to shoot our music video at but also that we need to do a recce on those locations to make sure they are safe to use. They talk about test shots and what angles we are going to use for those test shots and how we will use them for our actual music video.

From all of the feedback that has been given back to me and my group we can tell what needs to be done to make our music video the best it can be. We now know what we need to think about when it comes to locations, lighting, sound etc. This feedback has given use the know how so that we will be able to go out confidently and film our music video knowing what the class and our teacher said is need and also remembering  what Jake and Pete said from the workshop we did a few weeks ago about what is needed.

These two photo's show the feedback that me and my groups class mates have given. A lot of them talk about what we are going to do for our narrative and where in the music video is our narrative going to appear. A lot of them ask about why the colour red and how we are going to use that for our music video. They give ideas on what we need to do for our digipak and website to make them the best they can be.

Pitch

Website Design Plan

These multiple pictures of the website flat plan we have created show a very basic layout of all the pages and how they will look however they don't specify any details as they will be created later on in the website creation process.

Digipak Flatplan

This shows a very early design of the digipak and the layout we intend to use when creating it within photoshop.

Music Video Timeline Planning

This timeline shows what we believe to be a rough idea of how we may possibly lay our video out to include our performance and narative into the video,

Contacting the Record Label

This shows how we got into contact with the record label that owns the rights to the music to see if it was possible for us to use it in our video.

Chosen Track and Inspirations

Within our pitch we have shown our selected song and then gathered up different photos into a pintrest of what we believe inspired us to do a music video on this genre of music, being alternative rock.

Target Audience Research

From the audience research I have done I have found out that it is often the image and style of the band that is liked about them however they can be a little samey. Also from this research the general view on the narrative fitting the genre is that they think they go very well together as often the songs tell storys that can be shown as a narrative.

I also found this webpage which shows details of research about the target audience for the genre of alternative rock and information about their age, gender, ethnicity, social background and much more.

Target Audience

Follow Josh's board Target Audience on Pinterest.

This will influence our ideas especially into what costumes we will use for our video. There are many different levels of alt rock shown within this pintrest and we will have to find a safe balance to waht we are going for so we dont go too over board but also make it so we fit the role enough.

Mock Website

http://047576.wix.com/test

This website mock was very successful as it gave us a very good idea of how we are going to create our real thing. However when it comes down to it when we create the real thing it will contain many more photos and have a much more appropriate colour scheme to match our music video and our digipak. This has developed my skills in the layout of the webpage and the general content.

Research on Websites

http://falloutboy.com/

The Fall Out Boy webpage is a very simple design as it is laid out in a very similar way to this blog. It all themed around their new album using the very plain design making it very appealing to myself. it is laid out very well with everything easy to access through buttons and links with all the latest updates on the main page so you have to look no further.

https://www.imaginedragonsmusic.com/

The Imagine Dragons webpage is much more flashy as it has moving interactive pictures in the background all associated with the new album. On the home page is all the latest information making it quick and easy to access will the common theme of black running through all the webpage and menus suiting the alt rock style.

http://www.bastillebastille.com/home/

Bastilles webpage is one of a kind as its home page has nothing on it apart from a image which changes every few seconds to do with the album and all of the other more important things are tucked away behind the navigation bar which makes this web page look very professional and organised.

Websites

The purpose of having a website is because it means that the band/artists can keep fans up to date with whats happening with them. To keep fans engaged and attract new fans. To post about what the band/artists are getting up to and where and when tours are happening.
What should be included? When making a website you need to make a title that states your bands name. It will need to be at the top of your website and it needs to stand out so that the viewers of your website will be attracted to it and remember it. You need to have the latest news about your band and what tours they are doing and how the bands doing. The reason for this is to reach out the fans and keep them intrigued and engaged and to attract new fans. You need to include shows that you and your band are doing also events, tours, performances etc. The reason for this is interaction with fans and meaning that fans are able to find out where you and your band will be meaning you are able to make money. You need behind the scenes stuff including photos and social networking links to gain a wider following fan base. This means you and your band are able to gain a wider following and larger target audience. You need information about you and your band as well as information of each member like a biography of everyone. You will need podcasts and home videos to give your fans something to laugh at or gain something from. You need a newsletter system for fans to sign up to and gain information about events etc. You will also need a mail address for fans who want to write to you and your band.

Photoshop Skills Development

While creating my digipak in Photoshop I learnt how to resize a canvas to the correct measurements and pixels per inch as well as correct the sizes of images after importing them in and also I got more practice using the layers system and now understand it alot better because of this exercise.

Although the final product from this exercise was not the best it has made me learn that it is very important to get the correct coloured photo for your background and the colour scheme is very important.

What is a Digi-Pak?

Definition - It is the packaging on a CD or DVD made of most commonly cardboard and placed inside a plastic cover. They more often than not are pictures of the artist or something to do with the name of the album and have the artists name, album name, track listing and bar code on them.

Template

What identity is being created for the following artists? Is the genre apparent?

From this One Direction digipak they are portrayed as a stereotypical boy band as they seem to show alot of homo-eroticism in their pictures. As they are a boy band you can hazard a guess at the genre of music will be very close to pop.

In this Killers digipak they seem very dark and rough but also smart similar to what we have been looking at for our genre this corresponds very well to the conventions of a alternative rock band.

In this Robbie Williams digipak the genre is alot less apparent than in the other ones previously however it seems very mellow and calm because of the warm colours used in it suggesting it is going to be something along the lines of a pop album.

This Katy Perry digipak seems very colourful and vibrant suggesting it is a very pop like album however because of the mise-en-scene there is a suggestion that there could be a little old-fashioned twang to the album.

Random Digi-Pak

For this exercise I used 3 random generators to find the name of my artists, the name of the album and the picture for the album. I took these into Photoshop and attempted to create a simple digipak with a front and back cover although my design is missing a few feature such as track names and a bar code I feel it is OK for a rough first attempt at using Photoshop to create a simple digpak.
